5 Steps For Finally Achieving Your Goals

While there is no surefire formula for success—achieving your goals requires you to create a solid plan of action. Goals with no precise plan of action sometimes fall through the cracks because there is not a conscious plan of action put in place. To increase your odds of achieving your goals follow the 5 steps below.

Step #1 Set Clear And Specific Goals

While there is nothing wrong with setting a goal that challenges you to reach your full potential, you must ensure that your goals are clear and specific. As an example, setting a goal to eat healthier this year is not particularly actionable or measurable. However, setting a goal to eat 5-8 servings of fruits and vegetables a day, is a clear and specific goal for success that you can measure.

Step #2 Map It Out

Once you have identified a clear and specific goal you want to break it down into bite-size chunks. Some of the goals you set in your personal and professional life will require you to create strategies, tactics, and step-by-step pieces. As an example, if your goal is to be more organized this year, you could start with organizing your closets—then moving on to each room one-by-one.

Step #3 Set A Date

Achieving your goals means you need to have a clear timeframe you are working with. Without a set date in mind, it is too easy to tell yourself you will start tomorrow, or next week, or next month.

Step #4 Take The First Step

Sometimes the first step in achieving your goals is a small one, however the first step is often the most difficult and most important. An excellent is how each New Year many individuals create resolutions. While resolutions are excellent, if they only remain on paper it will be impossible for you to realistically achieve your goals.

Step #5 Measure Your Success

In Step 2 you already mapped out your goals, now it is time to hold yourself accountable by measuring your success. This will require you to be honest with yourself about your progress, and will help you keep track along the way. Even if you have setbacks along the way to your goal, your forward momentum will continue by celebrating your small wins—and holding yourself accountable for your areas of opportunity.

    Hi Selma,

    this is some great advice. The most important in setting goals is that they are specific, clearly defined and as well achieveable in the first place.
    Starting with sucha goal it is much easier to work out a list of daily tasks that need to be accomplished in order to reach the goal.

    I also like to include regular rewards for achieving goals, nothing big though.

    I use time management software to make it easier to work on daily tasks. Finding ways to use regular rewards to pat yourself on the back is a great idea.

    Some people tend to start but failed to finish and the most important part was the first one is to set your goal. Think if it really is your priority and think ahead if there might be a chance that you will not continue on reaching your goal.
